According to various citation indices Trabajos de Prehistoria is one of the best scholarly journals devoted to archaeology

In 2020 Trabajos de Prehistoria maintains its leading position among Spanish publications according to published citation indices. In the 2019 Scopus ranking of international Archaeology journals, Trabajos de Prehistoria is in the top quartile, according to the CiteScore index. This is the position that it had in 2012-2016 and 2018. In 2019 Trabajos de Prehistoria has risen from the 75th to the 80th percentile (position 55 of 278). According to Trabajos de Prehistoria also was in the top quartile of the SJR (Scimago Journal Rank) in 2004-2006, 2009 and 2012-2019. Trabajos de Prehistoria also is indexed in Web of Science where it is placed in the third quartile of in the area of anthropology according to citation impact in the years 2013-2016 and 2018-2019.
