Abstract

The transition between Late Bronze Age and Early Iron Age in the south of the Northern Meseta (Spain) has been the subject of controversy. The interpretation of the available archaeological record proposed by F.J. González-Tablas, based on the stratigraphy from Los Castillejos (Sanchorreja, Avila), has maintained the idea of the survival of Cogotas 1 in the South of the Nort Meseta later than in the centre of the Duero valley. New data now indicate that in the southern part of the northern Meseta cultural development from the Late Bronze Age onwards was in every way similar to that in the Duero basin: the Soto Culture, as in the Duero, being an intermediate stage until the Second Iron Age.
