This paper presents a concise approach to the study of the internal organization of the settlements of hunter-gatherer communities. We examine the articulation of the various production and maintenance activities in the main occupation space, The basic theoretical and methodological premises and the structure of the specific form of analysis -ANITES, the analysis of the spatial interrelationship of archaeological e1ements- are set forth in logical sequence. To illustrate how ANITES works we present the results of an initial analysis of the data from the Cingle Verrnell settlement (Vilanova de Sau, Barcelona).
