This article analyses the content of the journal Trabajos de Prehistoria (1960-1993), as a representative periodical publication of Spanish Prehistory during that period, in an endeavour to reveal some of trends of the discipline. Quantitative criteria have been employed in order to define thematic, chronological, subdisciplinary and geographical evolution. Co-authorship and institutional adscription of the author permits the evaluation of general features of the scientific community as specialities, personal contacts and external relationship. Illustration and bibliography are considered as relevant factors of the papers. And approach to “impact measure” of the journal is offered. Results obtained justify the development of bibliometric analysis in the field of Humanities, with especial reference to Prehistory and Archaeology, inexistent in Spain up to now.
