We present a palynological study of six late Pleistocene and Holocene archaeological sites from the provinces of Almeria and Murcia. They span cultural periods from the Solutrean (Cueva de Ambrosio) to the Bronze Age (level III of Cueva del Calor), although most of them belong to the Chalcolithic period. Throughout this period, the vegetation was similar to that of the present day, although there has been a recent increase in aridity, largely as a result of human interference with the environment. Mediterranean species have been present since the Pleistocene.
