The present paper deals with results obtained by an interdisciplinary project, conceived for the rescue excavation of a site in which pits are the unique features. Such sites comprise one of the ubiquitous archaeological formations of the later prehistory of the central Spanish Meseta. A stratigraphical recording system, systematic recovery of finds and the intersection of quantified evidence lead to the interpretation of a functional and social structure of the site, identifying what we understand as an agrarian production and reproduction area. Discussion is centred on social and economic factors involved in the formation of archaeological deposits and their spatial and temporal distribution, which are the result of a society in which the relations of production are defined by the appropiation of land.
