Abstract

This paper aims analyse the economic use of the natural enviroment by the inhabitants of the Middle Bronze Age site of El Recuenco. Vegetal impressions on mud and vegetal remains show that the people from the “house 1” (dated to the fifteenth century b.c.) cultivated wheat, barley, olive trees, holm oaks, broad bean and flax. This is direct evidence of the practice of intensive and extensive agriculture in the Middle Bronze Age in La Mancha. The economic, social, and political implications of this new information are fundamental to the contextual and historical interpretation of El Recuenco.
